IN the newsTownship Receives $1.7 million in Open Space Grants Novemebr 18th- DCNR announced today that North Coventry, with the support of Warwick and South Coventry Township was awarded $1,725,000 in two multi-municipal grants for two tracts totaling 211 acres that would add to North Coventry’s Coventry Woods Preserve near French Creek State Park. This is the full amount we requested for each application. Although this combined total is not the largest amount awarded, they are the largest municipal grants awarded in the State! The grants are contingent on award of the full matching grants from Chester County or other sources. One tract now awaits only the Phase Two Chester County grant and the first of two Chester County applications was just filed for the second tract. This is truly a phenomenal achievement! It recognizes the environmental importance of the area in which we live and the multi-municipal support from Warwick, South Coventry and the combined Planning Commissions, Parks and Recreation Commissions, EAC’s and the legislators that wrote support letters for us. Thanks also to Jim Thorne and Pete Smyrl of Natural Lands Trust for assistance in planning and drafting the applications. Thank you to each of you! South Coventry also was awarded 21,900 for preparing its master site plan for Woody’s Woods! meeting schedule
Route 100 Gateway Master PlanThe Route 100 Corridor is currently experiencing significant development interest in the Pottstown Region, as demand for new housing and commercial areas presses west from Montgomery County and north from Chester County. In response to these growing pressures, North Coventry Township is being proactive in planning for their portion of the corridor as it enters Northern Chester County. The result of North Coventry’s efforts is the Northern Chester County Gateway Master Plan, which addresses growth management, circulation, and development character along the Route 100 corridor. The Township’s intent with the Gateway Master Plan is to create a coordinated approach toward accommodating new development (and re-development) in the corridor, while effectively managing traffic circulation and maintaining a character that reflects the Township’s, Pottstown region’s, and Chester County’s goals. This plan will be discussed at the Planning Commission Workshop meeting on Wednesday December 3rd begininng at 7pm. <Click Here to View or Download the Latest DRAFT Version of the Plan> |
